Given the Mormons’ preference for peaceful, rural locations, it’s no surprise they chose this picturesque setting nestled in the hills of Blaina. For many years thereafter, it continued to serve as a hub of faith and fellowship.

The Old Band Room has stood resilient through generations, bearing witness to Blaina’s changing times and enduring spirit. Having survived both World Wars, the building played a vital role during some of the most challenging moments in modern history.
During the Second World War, it once again became a place of refuge and comfort for the local community. Not only did it offer sanctuary, but it also served a practical role—distributing ration cards to local residents throughout the 1940s and into the 1960s.
Amid the hardships of wartime, the people of Blaina turned to music for hope and unity. It was during this time that brass bands began using the space to rehearse and perform, lifting the spirits of those around them. Their music echoed through the building, becoming a cherished part of its identity.
It’s from this powerful tradition that the name The Old Band Room was born—a tribute to both the music that brought joy during difficult days and the enduring community that gave it life
